Deco Week starts December 26th. Sign up through iVolunteer to help!

Deco Week is when the design and thousands of hours of work come to fruition in a completed float entry. Please consider helping on this year’s float! This is a complicated process involving a lot of coordination, so please follow the guidelines below.

Volunteer Guidelines:

Deco Week will be from December 26th thru January 1st The float needs to be fully operational and decorated on December 31 for our 2nd judging.

We will follow all current LA County Guidelines regarding Covid-19 during Deco Week.  ALL unvaccinated participants are requested to wear a face mask that completely covers their mouth and nose, unless exempted.  All participants are encouraged to wear a face mask.  Updated information will be on our website as our event gets closer; check back just prior to your signup date for any change in requirements and updates.

Signups for Deco Week volunteering will be done through the iVolunteer website. Participants signed up through iVolunteer will get priority for job assignments. There may not be tasks for walk-in volunteers. If signed-up volunteers do not arrive within 20 minutes of their shift, walk-ins may fill those slots.  iVolunteer will be operational in mid-October. Deco Week shifts are: morning shift 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., afternoon shift 1:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. and evening shift 7:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Our 2nd judging is on January 1st and our plan is to be done decorating by then. We’ll still need volunteers to help after judging. You may volunteer for multiple shifts in a day & multiple days, as space permits. All volunteers must sign a Release Form before working. Release Forms for anyone under 18 MUST be signed by a parent or guardian, before the minor will be to work.  Please download, complete, print, sign and bring it with you when you volunteer (remember, under 18, parent/ guardian must sign).  Remember to complete the Emergency Contact section – it is required.

There are no guarantees that you will be working “on” the float. The majority of jobs available are prepping deco items, dry and floral. Work on the float itself will be determined by your age, expertise, and current need for workers. An adult must accompany children under age 14 at all times. Workers physically on the float or on scaffolding/above float level must be at least 16 years of age. On December 30th and December 31st all volunteers MUST be at least 10 years old for day time shifts, 14 for evening or late shifts.

Age Restrictions: Please be aware of and follow our age restrictions when signing up for shifts.  If children are signed up for a shift but they are younger than our guidelines, they may not be allowed to work during that shift (exceptions may be made, ahead of time, on a case-by-case basis).  All volunteers working an evening shift must be at least 14.  Please note that on December 31st and January 1st, ALL Volunteers must be at least 10 for the morning and afternoon shifts and 14 for any evening/late night shift.

NO personal items, such as backpacks or purses are allowed. No use of phones or audio devices in the barn. A phone or audio device can stay in your pocket, although ringers must be set to silent. Laser pointers are not allowed. Shift changes with dozens of workers take a little time, so please be patient. Remember that float decorating can get messy and cold. Wear old work clothes and closed-toed shoes. Bring a warm jacket/sweatshirt.

Our normal practice is that lunch for morning volunteers only will be available mid-day for a donation and dinner for afternoon volunteers will be provided by local restaurants (no charge to volunteers)- please see our website and check back just prior to your assigned date for any changes.

Remember to download and complete the Volunteer Release Form
(under 18, you need parent or guardian signatures).
