Help Us Build the Sierra Madre Rose Float

BUILD

From March until October, we build the framework of the float. That includes welding, animation, character modeling, screening and painting. We usually work on Thursdays and Sundays at our Float Barn starting at 10:30 am. We’d love to have you join us to share your skills and enthusiasm.

Our experienced float builders will work with you to fabricate a one of a kind vehicle that will be seen by millions of people world wide. If you’re looking for experience you can learn about steel work, welding, metal shaping, foam application and carving.

Volunteers will need:

🟣close toe shoes

🟣long pants, blue jeans or cotton

🟣work gloves, leather preferred

🟣water or soft drinks for yourself.

~specialized equipment and materials will be provided

We look forward to having you join us in the shop for the next build!

We start with the Chassis (the body of the float) and weld upward from here.

Here are are Cocooning. Its a one ay process that turns the window screen (screening process) to a solid form. This solid form will then be painted and hold seeds, flowers, and other dry products.

Decking is welder all around the Chassis. We use a mix of different grades of steel. Mig and stick welding is how we make the decking solid.

Last step in the process. Turning this float into a large color by number, to make decorating much easier.

Months after we’ve finished welding we screen. All vertical areas are covered with a glue and a roll of window screen. Ths provides us a firm, flat surface that after it’ cocooned, will be able to hold product.
